I just watched The Forbidden Kingdom. I give it 6/10

It's not really that good. Lame story and plot. Most of my evaluation goes to the martial arts, frankly.

The Assasination of Jesse James by The Coward Robert Ford. It's a good movie. I give it 7.8/10. Honestly, I didn't know who the hell Jesse James is, but thanks to the movie, now I do.

Conan the Barbarian (the one they just made last year, with Jason Momoa in the title role).

I read all the books by Robert E. Howard when I was a kid, and I loved the 1982 movie of the same name (with Arnold Schwarzenegger). And I wanted to really like this movie, since it was clear they were taking it seriously and there was a lot of care for the world that Howard created. But the story was somehow both bland and mystifying at the same time. I found myself, at turns, thinking, "Well that was completely predictable" followed by "WTF?") Also... they tried to squeeze WAY too much into a single movie, in my opinion. Conan had a lot of roles in his long and storied career: mercenary, thief, pirate, king. And they tried to check them all off in this movie. I think they would have been better to have developed the character o Conan and what motivates him, rather than taking it for granted that the audience would fill in the blanks.

Fans of this genre of fantasy might want to give it a look, to see if there are good parts they can pull out (the special effects are good, of course). But if sword-and-sorcery fantasy isn't your thing--and maybe even if it is--you can give this a miss.

I'd give it a 4 out of 10, I'm afraid.

Mr. Brooks, solid 10/10.

I'm reminded of the scene in Raiders of the Lost Ark, when Indiana Jones was confronted by a sword-wielding thug who demonstrated his prowess with elaborate moves and slashes through the air. The obvious message to Indy was, come and meet your death at the point of my sword. With a disgusted look on his face, Indy simply pulled out a revolver and shot him.

My point being that you can build up an elaborate facade behind which you hide from the world... but that doesn't mean someone can't come along and just cut through all your bullshit.

Moneyball  8/10

But if you aren't a huge baseball fan, as I am, then it may rank lower for you.

The Number 23. It was like 8.4/10 for me.

If only the role was played by another actor, someone better than Carry, I'd have given it something at least over 9.

Black Swan.  6.  The only reason I gave it a 6 and not a 5 was because it had Natalie Portman diddling herself.  I seriously don't understand how this movie got all the hype it did.  Here's the movie in a nutshell:

*Lots of ballet rehearsal*

Natlie Portman:  "I want to be a perfect ballerina!"

Stereotypical French Ballet Producer: "But you are a frigid bitch! You need to learn to let go!"

*more rehearsal*

*short scene with crazy bitch mother trying to live through her child/Natlie Portman seeing weird shit/lesbo scenes*

Wash, Rinse, repeat, roll credits.

The latest underworld movie. 5.5 out of 10. Go to movies like that for just wanting to watch action and more action. Dont expect great plots.

The latest mission impossible movie. Not quite as good as the last one but still very entertaining. 7.5 out of 10.

And the latest Sherlock Holmes movie. Fantastic! Great story. Great action. Suberb charactar interaction. 10 out of 10. Still dont know how my wife found this one boring and fell asleep.

We are fast approaching the stage of the ultimate inversion: the stage where the government is free to do anything it pleases, while the citizens may act only by permission; which is the stage of the darkest periods of human history, the stage of rule by brute force.   - Ayn Rand

I absolutely loved that movie. Robert Downy Jr. does a great job in his role.
Fabulous and I can't believe your wife fell asleep either!!!

Highlander:  7.5 because it is a cult classic.  If the movie was made today, it'd score much lower.  Cheesy fight sequences, bad accents, and some things that make no sense.  It did have a kick ass theme song from Queen though.
